Lee Morgan Radio Special with host Jazz Incognito from 9pm-12 midnight on WXYC-FM Chapel Hill, North Carolina 5/21/20
(Published: May 18, 2020)

Join us as Jazz Incognito hosts WXYC's Thursday Night Feature, from 9pm to 12 midnight, on Lee Morgan. Lee Morgan burst into the jazz scene as a teenager playing trumpet on coltrane's 1957 masterpiece Blue Train. After learning at the feet of Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers Lee Morgan became one of the key hard bop musicians of the 1960s producing more than 30 records some of which are now considered jazz classics. Then on a snowy night in February 1972, Lee Morgan was shot dead by his common-law wife Helen during a gig at a club in New York City. Jazz incognito presents the short and tragic life of Lee Morgan through his 15 year professional career including audio excerpts from the 2016 Swedish produced documentary on Lee Morgan entitled "I Called him Morgan". www.wxyc.org archived at www.jazzincognitoshow.blogspot.com
