Description:
This is a particularly impressive outing by flutist Jamie Baum. Although joined by a variety of major players (trumpeter Dave Douglas, either Kenny Werner or Roberta Piket on piano, bassist Drew Gress and drummer Jeff Hirshfield), she is not overshadowed by her sidemen. In fact, Baum contributed eight of the nine selections (all but Ornette Coleman's catchy "Una Muy Bonita") and arranged all of the pieces. The inside/outside free bop music is full of adventure and color, with plenty of individual and group heroics. Highly recommended.
