Currently listening to Elgar's Enigma Variation for the first time, all right, but a tad sweet for my taste. I got hold of some of his stuff 'cos I caught a televised performance of some of his orchestral work (not the Variations though) and it really knocked me out.
This stuff is not long for my Ipod (and possibly hard drive either)

Next up:
The 'sheesh will be listening to Philip Glass - Einstein on the Beach disc 2. Taking it one disc at a time due to its repetitive nature. Really loved disc 1 when i checked it out a couple of weeks back.

Next on the playlist:

Frank Bretschneider (as Komet) - Gold
Monteverdi - Madrigals, Book VI (can't get enough of this guy lately, and the madrigals are SUBLIME, truly some of the most beautiful music ever written)

Next up:
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan - Live in Paris, magisterial, utterly beautiful and powerfully moving.

Over the weekend the 'sheesh revelled in the auditory pleasures offered by the following glorious albums;

Pran Nath - Ragas of the Morning & Night (contains Ragas Todi & Darbari)
Prefab Sprout - Jordan: The Comeback, simply one of the greatest 'pop' albums ever made
Richie Hawtin (you lot probably know him better as Plastikman) - DE9: Transitions, one of the indisputable masterpieces of electronic music

Kim Deal was a pretty lady, no doubt about it!

J.A.C. - Tosca, not as good as the immortal Suzuki (as recognised by no less than Joe Frank when he used Doris Dub for one of his shows)
Pink Flag - Wire, great group, great songs

Another great one - featuring Outdoor Miner - the No. 1 pop hit that never was.

Recently my teen daughter came home from school with what she called "weird new stuff" on her mp3: Depeche Mode Sounds of the Universe

I showed her to Mam's box of pearls: all 80's stuff. Now the whole house is on D Mode

Sweet reminiscence

God Help The Girl - God Help the Girl (2009) - If you know and dig Belle and Sebastian check this retro effort that takes us back to pre Beatles. Its one of my tips for the best of 2009

Os Mutantes - Haih or Amorticor (2009) - Can you recapture greatness? Probably not, I am still unconvinced but its Os Mutantes Baby

Loudon Wainwright III - High Wide and Lonesome (2009) - Great! Americana - Yippie

Just got this in the mail today. Should be some great stuff.
Nice companion piece to the SF Nuggets box that Rhino put out a couple of years ago.

For his weekend listening the 'sheesh mixed the jazz up with the following;

Muslimgauze - not many people know about this guy, but those who do are big, big fans (average around 220 or so)
ACDC - Powerage, If You Want Blood (You Got It), the discerning ACDC fan's choices.

OOIOO - Armonico Hewa (Thrill Jockey)

I don't where or how Yoshimi comes up with this weird stuff but it sure is entertaining.

To show my kids that Harry Potter movie soundtracks DO have indeed a classical source

I planted an ear-worm! Imagine a kid in the schoolyard humming and whistling the Adagio Allegro Molto instead of Lady Gaga

Glad you like my soulmate's mantra I loaded a couple of Larson E. Whipsnade and Egbert Sousé movies on my laptop. While my colleagues go watch in-room movies opf a certain nature I get my kick frpm Philadelphia

But back to your "taste" of . uhm, let's say music: once in a club in Nice in the very early hours of the next morning they played something that sounded like my doctors ultrasound scanner "mating" the ECG with sheer orgasmic pleasure. Asked what it was, the french DJ said:"c'est un allemand fou comme toi!"
Turned out it was FB's Rythm album
Never touched it since. I know my limits and boundaries

But Latty old chap, Rhthm is a simply splendiferous album! Brettschneider is the bee's knees, the cat's pajamas and the wasp's nipples.
check out 'Status' or 'Curve' or 'Balance' for confirmation of his Extraordinary sonic sculptures - So beautiful!
Also another 'allemand' - Alva Noto - his Xerrox series is unbelievable and he's got tons of unbelievably amazing stuff out there.

The 'sheesh has been listening to;
Lamonte Young - disc 2 of the Well Tuned Piano
Monolake - Interstate

P.S. I hope you slapped that impertinent Frenchman's face for rank impertinence - you're one of the sanest fellows i know around here. 'Fou' indeed! Bah!
