Bassist Skip Bey

Skip was a friend and mentor to me when he lived fairly briefly in my locale in VT before he moved to Montreal, where he lived until he passed a few years ago. I've recently learned that when he was living in Montreal he recorded a CD, "Skip Bey: Live at Quartier Latin". If anyone knows where I might be able to pick one up I'd sure appreciate it. And get one for yourself while you're at it. I'm sure you won't be disappointed. I learned a great thing from Skip: "Burn the (fake)book."

Thanks, Ellen

I know where you can get a copy, Ellen. But rather than pay postage, I'll just put it on my shopping list for my next trip North.

According to Len, Skip's playing also made it onto Then And Now, an Oliver Jones date, released on Justin Time.

I enjoyed many performances by Mr. Bey during the time he spent in Milwaukee. One especially memorable performance was with Pepper Adams. Hadn't heard that he had passed; I'll make it a point to seek out these recording.
