Deerhoof-Offend Maggie (Kill Rock Stars)

I was a little disappointed in their last CD Friend Opportunity but the 'hoofs are back big time with this one.

There's some great stuff on the later releases with Wally Ingram, too, but I know you'll love the ones with Naser for sure, for starters.
I have Win this record on vinyl too. I also have some of the boots that pair Lindley with Browne. At least I hope I still have them as I lost an external hd with a lot of music. Such is life.

The Iquanas Live At Wolf Trap

can see the lovely ladies dancing till the wee, wee hours of the morning on Frenchmen Street at Cafe Brasil. Didn't even know how great it was when it was happening right in front of mine own eyes.....

Shrugs, do you have any Radiators recommendations? I'm still in a serious NOLA groove, helped along this week by seeing Galactic tonight and having lunch with Chris Rose on Thursday.

Chris Rose is a hoot. Tell 'em a local boy said where y' at! And yes "Mommas, don't let your babies grow up to be Saints fans"

As far as the Rads go, check out the bootlegs available at the live music archive.
http://www.archive.org/details/Radiators
The files are in flac format and need to be converted to .wav files to burn to cd. There are some great shows from the early days. If you don't know how to do this, I'll be glad to help. Or you can stream them.
That said, Molasses on Total Evaporation(studio album) is a must hear. The rest of the album is pretty strong. And then there is Law Of The Fish. Worth the trip too. I haven't listened to Zig-Zagging Through Ghostland in a long time but remember enjoying it very much when listened side by side with Law of The Fish.
They are very much like the Dead in that their live shows are a much better example of their power.
If I were to choose one, it would be Law of the Fish.

I DL'd it from eMusic. Only listened to it a couple of times, so far. It's definitely good, especially considering how short a time they existed. There are a couple of tunes from Sandy's "North Star Grassman ..." album.

Thanks a lot, Shrugs. I'm DL'ing like a mofo from the Internet Archive. They have a bunch of Subdudes, too!

I am going to mention you to Rose. You were the one who hipped me to his book, which kicked off this NOLA project I started at Johnson State (common text for all incoming students, volunteer efforts in New Orleans, live performances (Soul Rebels, Dumpstaphunk), and a slew of movies).

That sounds great.
On my walk this morning to where I am doing some work, I passed a church here in St.Bernard that still doesn't have electricity and is need of some outside repairs.
Yet they still gather there in the mornings to go volunteer elsewhere.
Unlike the government where you would get a recording "sorry the building is closed", the faith-based groups and colleges and universities have stepped up to the plate. Oftentimes, with no working phone and substandard office space.
It's where the rubber meets the road.

This is, in my opinion, Ryan's best album.

I expected to be disppointed after reading all the early reviews, but I like it.

I love Van to death, but have to admit I don't own any of those and have only heard Hymns to the Silence.

last night was this classic:

Great use of samples. Definitely one of the better lf the early hip hop examples of how sampling can be done in a myriad of ways.

Raw, visceral - BB hasn't put out a record this good in years. I can't believe Don Was is the producer.

Yes, excellent. I just finished listening to it for the first time on my drive home from Canberra today. Very nice but I didn't mind Friend Opportunity at all, though this one is better.

Yes, they are. The remastering sounds very good (which is not very common these days) but it would have been more interesting with other bonutracks on No Pussyfooting than the tracks on halfspeed and reversed but I must admit that they actually sounds very nice on halfspeed so why not.
