Honoring the music of John Coltrane, his spiritual journey and 84th anniversary of his birth-Sept 23rd, 1926, is the focus of this month's jazz vespers. Along with the music there will be readings about his life, as well as reflections and prayers. His monumental work "A Love Supreme" and other compositions will be featured.
Coltrane felt we must all make a conscious effort to effect positive change in the world, and that his music was an instrument to create positive thought patterns in the minds of people. In the words of John Coltrane........My goal is to live the truly religious life, and express it in my music. If you live it, when you play there's no problem because the music is a part of the whole thing. To be a musician is really something. It goes very, very, deep. My music is the spiritual expression of what I am-my faith, my knowledge, my being. (from the official John Coltrane website-http://www.johncoltrane.com/index.html)
