Chris Williams Wins Honor at Orange County Music Awards (Published: April 06, 2007)
Acclaimed jazz vocalist, Chris Williams (http://www.cwjazz.com) has won for Best Latin with his song "Comes Love" at the Orange County Music Awards, held March 31st at The Grove of Anaheim.
His Latin jazz rendition of "Comes Love" was originally written and composed by Lew Brown, Sammy Stept, and Charles Tobias. "Comes Love" is featured on his album, "premoderism" that is available on his website www.cwjazz.com. The album features a mix of Straight-ahead, Bebop and Latin jazz.
"I want to thank the band members that performed with me on ‘premoderism' and look forward to sharing the award for Best Latin with them," said Chris Williams.
Williams was also honored by receiving a Best Song nomination at the competition for "Comes Love". Williams was up against more than 600 submissions to receive the honor of being in the top 5 submitted entries to qualify for the Best Song category.
Performing with Williams on "premoderism" is international jazz legend Justo Almario on flute, clarinet, and saxophone. Mark Massey created many of the arrangements, and plays piano on the project as well. Other contributing artists include Puerto Rican trumpet player David Soto, saxophonist Greg Parman, and trumpet player Steve Crum, who has toured with such greats as Diana Ross, Tom Jones, and Brian Setzer.
"For some singers the melody and the lyrics almost get in the way of the cool notes that they want to sing. But for me, my main goal is to convey the story," said Williams. "I love making memories with the music. I want to create the kind of evenings that people walk away with and talk about long afterwards."
Chris Williams can be seen performing at the five-star Ambrosia Restaurant Wednesday through Saturday and at the famous Steamers Jazz Café the third Tuesday of every month.
