WHAT: JUST ANNOUNCED: Celebrated pianist and composer George Cables brings a new project to the Blue Note that will feature drummer Jeff "Tain" Watts, bassist James Genus, and special guest saxophonist/woodwind specialist Casey Benjamin. Though Cables is best known as a sideman for jazz luminaries like Art Blakey, Sonny Rollins, Joe Henderson, Freddie Hubbard, Dexter Gordon and Art Pepper, his catalog as a leader is impressive in quantity and quality. On those recordings and in his live sets, the master pianist possesses a deft touch, lyrical compositions, and flowing improvisations.
