JazzCorner roster saxophonist Chris Greene is the MAYNE event this fall
(Published: October 06, 2011)

Chicago, IL - Chris Greene is "...a post-bop maverick intent on shaking things up for the mainstream," according to AllAboutJazz.com. This October 27, 2011 at 8pm the Chris Greene Quartet intends to shake things up at the famed Mayne Stage theatre, located at 1328 W Morse Ave in Chicago's Rogers Park neighborhood. The CGQ is Chris Greene (leader, composer, saxophones) with Damian Espinosa on piano, Marc Piane on bass and Steve Corley on drums. The band will be recording all new tunes for a new live CD, with legendary recording engineer Joe Tortorici at the helm. The funky and eclectic William Kurk Enterprise will open the show. Tickets are $15 for reserved seating and $10 general admission. The box office opens at 6pm; lobby doors open at 6:30pm. Tickets may be purchased in advance through the Mayne Stage box office at 773.381.4551 or online at www.maynestage.com/ Chris-Greene-Quartet.

The Chris Greene Quartet has been busy, with a new CD every year since 2007. The band is not only prolific but gaining momentum and audience exponentially. Acoustic organic rhythmic guerilla jazz--the CGQ draws its collective excursions and intensity from the current sounds of rock, funk, fusion and soul. Moreover, they're able to achieve this due to a healthy dose of respect for jazz's more traditional elements - swing, blues, interaction, and the 'Spanish tinge.' Bridget Arnwine from AllAboutJazz.com says about their CD Merge "...Greene performs throughout with such a confidence and contagious joy that it's easy to see why any musician worth his salt would want to perform with him. There's nothing better than listening to music performed by musicians who aren't afraid to take a chance, but who also treat the music with respect. Such is the way of the Chris Greene Quartet. Merge is a solid record from a solid group of musicians."

While the Thursday, October 27 show at Mayne Stage is the jewel in the crown of the band's fall shows, audiences should not hesitate to catch CGQ at some of their regular stops - all listed below. For more information about the artists, please visit chrisgreenejazz.com.
