Diane Moser's Composers Big Band
(Published: July 22, 2007)

The 10th Anniversary season of Diane Moser's Composers Big Band continues to feature it's resident composers, and this months' featured composer is-me- Diane Moser However, I've decided to share my month with several people, especially when I found out that Gradie's 50th birthday and my 50th birthday were within days of each other, I knew we had to do something special. Gradie and I have always talked about performing some of her father's arrangements, (Kirby Stone),with the big band, so we'll be performing his arrangement of Zing! Went the Strings of My Heart, along with the music composed for Gradie by resident composer, Rob Henke, which we performed at our 10th Anniversary concert this past January. So if any of you missed that, here's your second chance!

Another vocalist and composer who will be performing with the band, making a special trip, all the way from Austin, Texas, is Texas Hall of Famer, Tina Marsh, whose singing has been called "scat to the highest power!"

I met Tina a few years ago, (we were both recipients of a grant from Chamber Music America's:New Works and Creation program), and after talking with her, realized that we were kindred spirits, and began talking about how we could collaborate. I have such admiration for Tina, she has been the musical director of a big band in Austin, Texas, called The Creative Opportunity Orchestra, for 27 years! That's quite amazing. http://www.creop.org/

Ms. Marsh was a featured performer with my quintet, this past October at on a concert at Caldwell College. Tina and I also participated in a seminar on "Women in Music" as guest lecturers and performers. For this month's performance, we have each received funding from Meet The Composer's, Metlife Creative Connections grant program, to present our music-Tina's composition, "Milky Way Dreaming", and my composition "Speak To Me" which features vocalist Teresa Rivera (and her lyrics), and my son Chad, on turntables. Teresa is is a very busy performer, currently starring in the Off Broadway hit, "Plantanos and Collard Greens", we're so happy her schedule allows her to be with us! And of course, it goes without saying, but I'm gonna say it anyway, I'm thrilled that my son will be performing with us this month.

50th Birthday for Diane and Gradie!
Featured Composers:
Diane Moser and Tina Marsh
Guest Vocalists:
Gradie Stone
Marcelino Feliciano
Teresa Rivera
Guest Performer: turntablist Chad Moser

Another guest vocalist for this month is Montclair resident Marcelino Feliciano. Marcelino has been sitting in with us off and on for several months now, and we're having a great time with him! He goes from singing, scatting, rapping, and telling stories. He's very talented, extremely versatile, and will jump in at a moment's notice. We're very fortunate that he's been willing to come and work with us.

What else can I say, except that it'll be a great night of music, friends and celebration, and we hope you can join us!
