Jazz Improvisation Workshops in Houston, TX (Published: January 18, 2008)
Musicians (student, amateur and professional) with an interest in playing jazz and developing jazz improvisation skills are invited to participate in a workshop series (to be held in Houston) that focuses on these topics. The workshops are presented by accomplished composer and well-known Houston jazz trumpeter, Eddie Lewis.
While young musicians are encouraged to attend and interact with more experienced musicians, it should be noted that all workshop participants are required to have a minimum of 2 years playing experience on an instrument of their choice. Although it is not necessary to participate in all the workshops, the first workshop is a prerequisite for the other 5 workshops in the case of musicians with little or no formal training or experience in playing jazz.
The first workshop will discuss the 5 study areas that form the essence of well-balanced improvisation: listening, technique, idiomatic expression, application, and performance. To allow participants that are new to jazz to exercise their new skills in a non-threatening environment, a special "beginners" jazz jam session is planned for the end of the first workshop.
The workshops begin 1 Feb 2008, and online registration for the first workshop closes 28 Jan. Visit www.consortimmanuel.org for more details and access to the registration form. More Information: http://www.consortimmanuel.org/workshops
