Presented by New York's WBGO-FM and Berklee, The Checkout - Live at Berklee brings critically acclaimed alumni back to their alma mater for intimate concerts in the Red Room @ Cafe 939, broadcast live on the radio and streamed on the web. The series continues on Wednesday, November 5, with saxophonist and composer Uri Gurvich. Performing with Gurvich will be fellow Berklee alumni Asen Doykin on piano, Peter Slavov on bass, and Ronen Itzik on drums.

The Checkout - Live at Berklee: Uri Gurvich airs live in New York on WBGO 88.3 FM, and will be webcast live in HD video at WBGO.org/thecheckout/berklee, where it will also be archived for later viewing. Past Checkout - Live at Berklee featured performers have included Christian Scott, Melissa Aldana, Warren Wolf, Ingrid Jensen, and Guillermo Klein, among others.

The concert and broadcast begin at 8:00 p.m. Tickets to the live performance, $10 for the public and $5 with a Berklee ID, are available at cafe939.com. The Red Room @ Cafe 939 is located at 939 Boylston Street, Boston, MA, and is wheelchair accessible. For more information, call 617-747-2261.

Saxophonist and composer Uri Gurvich was a member of the Tel Aviv Jazz Orchestra and won the Jazz Player of the Year competition in his native Israel before coming to Berklee, where he studied with Joe Lovano and Hal Crook. Now based in New York, Gurvich won great acclaim as a bandleader with his debut album The Storyteller (Tzadik), featuring some of the most prominent voices on the contemporary jazz scene: Leo Genovese, Peter Slavov, Francisco Mela and special guest Chris Cheek. All Music Guide called Gurvich, "a major new voice in jazz."

Gurvich's second album, BabEl, features his quartet and Moroccan multi-instrumentalist Brahim Fribgane on oud and percussion. The Los Angeles Times wrote that the music "transcends borders," placing Israeli, Yemenite, East European and North African music into a progressive jazz context. Gurvich will release his third Tzadik project, an interpretation of John Zorn's Book of Angels, in 2015.

This concert is generously supported by the Consulate General of Israel to New England.
