SOUNDPAINTING is the multi-disciplinary live-composing sign language for musicians, actors, dancers, and visual artists. It allows the composer (aka Soundpainter) to shape the material, offered by the performers, into a composition created in the moment. The language was developed by composer Walter Thompson in New York beginning in the late 1970's. Soundpainting is now practiced in over 35 countries and on five continents. Thompson divides his time between New York and Europe where he is celebrated for his unique contribution to single and multi-disciplinary composing. Visit Soundpainting.com for more information.
The performances by the Walter Thompson Orchestra are funded by the New York State Council on the Arts, a state agency.
