Jazz Violinist Scott Tixier special guest Yvonnick Prene' (Published: June 13, 2015)
Jazz violinist Scott Tixier and harmonica player Yvonnick Prene will perform at Tavern on the Lake in Hightstown on Friday, June 19, at 7:30 p.m. Friends since childhood in Paris, the two musicians are collaborating in a "French Connection" which promises to bring down the house.
Scott Tixier grew up in a suburb of Paris where his mother was a jazz dancer, his father an actor and producer. With his twin brother, he began studying classical music at age three. Ten years later, he took up the jazz violin. He now lives in Brooklyn and is a rising star in the jazz world. Guitarist Pat Metheny says Tixier "has found a place for himself within the elite community of New York jazz musicians." Two-time Grammy winner Marcus Miller says that Tixier is "making an international name for himself."
Harmonicist Yvonnick Prene also grew up in Paris, starting his recording and performing career at age 17. He now lives in New York and has performed around the world with some of today's top jazz artists. Jazz legend Lee Konitz has said that Prene's music is "the most beautiful music I have ever heard on harmonica."
