(Published: June 30, 2015)

Grammy-nominated jazz vocalist Jane Monheit, whose just-released album, "Hello, Bluebird," with David Benoit is already winning raves ("Monheit shines throughout" - London Evening Standard), will sing at Usdan Center for the Creative and Performing Arts on Wednesday July 1. Monheit, a Usdan alumna, has frequently performed at the acclaimed summer arts camp. The event is part of Usdan's Festival Concerts series, private on-site shows in music, dance and theater, exposing Usdan students to the best of the arts.

Another jazz performer will appear July 14: saxophonist, flutist and vocalist Camille Thurman, winner of this year's Martin E. Segal Award (Lincoln Center), with her quartet.

Usdan Center features a full jazz program in a department founded in 1986 by Dr. Billy Taylor. Artists who have performed and given master classes at the Center include Jimmy Heath, Arturo O'Farrill, Jane Monheit, Jon Faddis, Ted Rosenthal, Bobby Watson and Marion McPartland.

Usdan's 7-week season has just begun; however, a special 3-week season starts July 27 - call 631-643-7900 for information, or visit www.usdan.com or write to info@usdan.com.

Usdan Center, now in its 48th season, offers more than 40 programs in music, dance, theater, visual arts, creative writing, nature and ecology and chess, annually hosting more than 1,600 students from towns throughout the Tri-State New York area. One- third of Usdan's students receive scholarship assistance based on family need.
