SFJAZZ Family Matinees: Linda Tillery & The Cultural Heritage Choir 2/13/2016
(Published: September 01, 2015)

For our matinee program in honor of Black History Month, the amazing Cultural Heritage Choir presents an exciting and interactive experience in celebration of African American children's folk music as well as spirituals and work songs. Founded in 1992 by vocalist, percussionist and historian Linda Tillery, the Cultural Heritage Choir was established with the express purpose of preserving and sharing the wealth of African-American roots music, with origins in the Deep South and strong connections to West African and Caribbean traditions. Families will sing, dance, clap and rejoice as we highlight the traditional sounds of America's folk music.

Both fun and educational, Family Matinees provide a window into the exciting world of live jazz. Each one-hour matinee features live performance, audience participation, Q&A and amazing music. Our interactive Family Workshops follow select performances and are FREE to matinee ticket-holders. Enjoyed individually or as a series, these Family Matinees and Workshops will change the way you hear jazz and get families playing together.

For our Family Workshop, join us in the Joe Henderson Lab with members of the Cultural Heritage Choir for more hands-on fun as we honor the folk traditions of the African American experience. This Family Workshop is free to matinee ticket-holders; sign-ups take place in the lobby prior to the show and space is limited.

A limited number of free tickets are available to low-income Bay Area school or community groups. If you are interested in bringing your school or community group to a Family Matinee, please fill out our ticket request form: https://docs.google.com/a/sfjazz.org/forms/d/16KzaOsRnMhv9O5I8Iw3eudlq47nLxzUAB_5Ux0sYpKc/viewform
