Composer/Pianist and Jazzcorner roster member Jawanza Kobie has been selected for the 2016-2017 Kimmel Center Jazz Residency in Philadelphia PA.
Two other composers along with Kobie were selected from amongst 29 applicants from various jazz backgrounds.
The residency (in short) is for the composers to write new music based on a concept submitted to the selection committee for the purpose of introducing and engaging new audiences. Most of these concepts are in collaboration with other artist in different disciplines suggested by the Kimmel center to further broaden the appeal for the new music.
Kobie will be collaborating with award winning Playwright and Yale University Professor Deborah Margolin which will concentrate on introducing young audiences to the music that we call Jazz via a narrative and performances.
