A Different Take is fueled by exhilarating improvisation and wide-eyed creativity to produce music that is unique, catchy, and colorful.
A collaboration between two jazz veterans, bassist Bruce Gertz and saxophonist Jerry Bergonzi, A Different Take delights in exploring the artistic possibilities of jazz while bathing in the glow of Latin and American Songbook influences.
"Shoid" serves as a brightly lit opening act to an album full of surprises. This is a playful tune that can uplift the most tired of souls. Its energetic vibe is pretty much evident due to the skillful playing that can be heard all throughout the song. The perfect way to start an album is through a song with a substantial amount of magnetic chemistry between the musicians; it is engaging from start to finish.
"M.J." is a progressive track that features some of Bergonzi's most impressive sax work. Like all the other songs in the album, it is cleanly produced and played with class and a hot groove. It's a true attention getter with a hypnotic spell.
"Inuendo" has a more relaxed tempo, showing another side to Gertz and Bergonzi. It has a calming effect that soothes the senses. A Different Take reaches into the heart and soul, music that is alive, entertaining, and captivating.
