Drummer Ulysses Owens, Jr. Returns To The Jazz Gallery With His Group THREE To Feature Works From His Latest Album Falling Forward (Published: September 06, 2017)
September 5, 2017- Grammy-Award winning drummer and musical director Ulysses Owens, Jr. will return to New York's esteemed Jazz Gallery for one night on September 7th to showcase works from his recently released album, Falling Forward. He will be joined by Reuben Rogers (bass) and Joel Ross (vibraphone) who together make up the trio THREE.
Falling Forward has received noticeable attention and favorable reviews since it was released on August 4th (May 4th Japan). The concept for the album came from Owens' desire to assemble a smaller group of musicians from whom he draws inspiration, which led Owens to tap Ross and Rogers. The artistic freedom he feels within this smaller group enabled him to explore a diverse repertoire on the recording that ranges from classic standards to funkier numbers to more emotive arrangements. He is thankful for the comfort he feels with this group, and the sense he can push musically and go in any direction. Following THREE's upcoming appearance this month, the group has several other New York City-based shows before the end of the year including Mezzrow (10/5), and the Side Door Jazz Club (11/18).
Owens will tour parts of the US, Europe, and Asia with Joey Alexander in October and November, and then in December, will play at Small's Jazz Club for a special Birthday show with Benny Banack, Joel Ross, and Christian Sands.
