Julian Gerstin Sextet (Published: December 29, 2017)
"New Songs of the Old City" is a suite inspired by composer Julian Gerstin's experiences in Caribbean and Mideastern music. In the old city you could hear music of many lands, evoking the past and becoming something new. The cities invoked here are Athens, Istanbul, Havana, Fort-de-France (Martinique) and the streets of San Francisco. With Anna Patton clarinet, Don Anderson trumpet, Eugene Uman piano, Wes Brown bass, Ben James drums, Julian Gerstin percussion and additional musicians Jon Weeks sax, Carl Clements flute, and John Wheeler trombone.
