BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, March 22, 2007 - The Central Brooklyn Jazz Consortium/CBJC presents the 8th Annual Central Brooklyn Jazz Festival from April 4 until April 29, 2007. The theme for this year's festival is "Jazz and Rhythm-Voice of the People," which speaks to the tempo of jazz music as it finds its sound in the contemporary voice of the people.

The festival's Gala Opening Day attraction on Wednesday, April 4th is Afro Caribbean Jazz Experience, an ensemble that presents a fresh and different world beat sound. Featuring Latin jazz pianist Dwight Brewster, (Willie Colon, Hector LaVoe), vocalist Sherry Scott, (Earth, Wind and Fire original member and composer of EFW's first hit, "I Think About Loving You"), saxophonist Sterling "Sax' Bailey, (Miles Davis, Bob Marley) and the Hai Rezolution Band (the high powered Afro, Salsa, Jazz band - Ringo Rosario, Skip Greene, Stuart Grant, Ferdinand Lugo, Victor Parrales, Avery McFadden & Pablo Rosado). The groups ability to blend tropical sounds into their brand of world beat music will inspire music lovers to dance to the mambo/salsa/reggae/jazz repertoire that the ensemble offers. Sugarhill Restaurant & Supper Club will be the host venue for this gala. Located at 615 DeKalb Avenue near the corner of Nostrand in the village of Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. A modest donation of fifteen dollars ($15) is requested, dinner is available. Doors open at 6:00 and show begins at 7:00 PM. For directions call, 718.797.1727. CBJC is proud to welcome Anheuser-Busch as the sponsor of this years' gala.

"Jazz musicians have always lived in Brooklyn, composed their music here, and performed for our residents, like ‘Charlie Parker Place' in Bedford Stuyvesant, which once boasted more than 20 jazz venues," said Borough President Markowitz. "The Central Brooklyn Jazz Consortium's eighth annual jazz festival confirms that Brooklyn will remain a jazz capital in the days ahead - from legends like Randy Weston performing at the Brooklyn Historical Society to a peek at the young lions at the Youth Jamboree, Brooklyn will be boppin'!"

CBJC's 8th annual festival will involve over sixteen (16) venues in Brooklyn ranging from Bedford Branch of Brooklyn Public Library, Our Lady of Victory Roman Catholic Church, Brooklyn Borough Hall, Weeksville Heritage Center and the Brooklyn Historical Society to some of the borough's premier jazz/cultural venues such as Sistas' Place, Solomon's Porch, Jazz Spot and Jazz 966 to name a few. Performing artists, Randy Weston, Oliver Lake, Charles Toliver, Pucho & The Latin Soul Brothers and Houston Person are among some of the world class talent scheduled to appear.
