Bassist/composer Marcelo Maccagnan electrifies Brazilian music on new album
(Published: February 28, 2018)

A melting pot of samba and jazz with a Brazilian flair, Looking Ahead is the new exhilarating release by bassist/composer Marcelo Maccagnan. It is a true musical journey with a mesmerizing concept.

This highly talented musician managed to oversee this project
with a manic attention to detail and a really strong focus on creating a captivating blend of genres. The songs on this release blur the lines between modern jazz and Latin influences, incorporating the sound of samba and the unique feel of Brazilian music, informed by local sensibilities and by the diverse musical traditions of this fantastically creative country.

The colorful painting that serves as the album cover is a perfect visual complement to this particular collection of six tunes. Opening number "New Beginnings" has plenty groove and rhythm, while the second number, "Noite," dazzles with its haunting atmospheres, a stunning cascading pattern of notes and tasteful sax arrangements.

On "Sonho Novo," the combo experiments with classic jazz vibes: I could almost imagine being in a NYC club in the middle of the night. These are only some of the album's keen highlights; Maccagnan and his collaborators created a record that's enjoyable from start to finish.
