Arun Luthra's Konnakol Jazz Project To Perform at Bar Next Door

New York, NY, March 12, 2018- Arun Luthra will perform his Konnakol Jazz Project at Bar Next Door on Saturday, March 31 at 7:30, 9:30, and 11:30 pm. Known as one of Manhattan's premier jazz listening rooms, Bar Next Door is located in historic Greenwich Village, presenting world-class jazz in a truly New York City ambiance.

Luthra is one of New York's leading saxophonists and composers as well as an exponent of the art form of konnakol - South Indian classical music vocalized rhythms. He is one of the few jazz musicians of Indian heritage fusing modern jazz with the rhythms of Indian classical music.

Arun Luthra was born in Worcester, Massachusetts, to an Indian father and a British mother. He began his formal music training in Belgium at age nine, studying European classical guitar. He eventually focused on the saxophone and began an active performing and writing career. As a recording artist, Luthra has been featured as a band leader, composer, arranger and sideman. Luthra is also a faculty member at The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York.

He has shared the stage and recorded with many of the great jazz, Afro-Cuban, Brazilian, world music and pop artists in the world, including Billy Harper, Eddie Henderson, Kenny Garrett, Mike Stern, Joe Chambers, Charli Persip, Bernard Purdie, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Frankie Valli, Bobby Short, Lew Soloff, & Zé Renato.

At Bar Next Door, Luthra, performing on tenor and soprano saxophones, will be joined by Evan Gregon on Bass and Kenny Grohowski on Drums.
