Jazz Notes Book Events (Published: December 20, 2009)
Three events in New Jersey will highlight "Jazz Notes: Interviews Across the Generations" PraegerABC-Clio), a book written by Sanford Josephson and released in June.
On Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, Words, a bookstore in Maplewood, NJ, will have an author event at 7:30 p.m.
On Sunday, Feb. 21, the New Jersey Jazz Society's monthly social at Shanghai Jazz in Madison, NJ., will feature Josephson talking about his book. Hopefully, some musicians will also be in attendance. The social is held from 3-6 p.m. NJJS members are admitted free; cost for non-members is $10. There is a $5 minimum.
On Thursday evening, April 1, Josephson will teach a one-session class on Hoagy Carmichael at the South Orange-Maplewood Adult School in Maplewood. The first chapter in "Jazz Notes" is based on a 1979 interview with Carmichael, supplemented by current interviews with Hoagy B. Carmichael (his son), Bill Charlap and Bob Wilber.
