Featuring Ellery Eskelin, Mark Helias, and Gerald Cleaver

On Saturday, February 6, Terrence McManus will be premiering a new ensemble at the Cornelia Street Cafe in Greenwich Village, entitled "Firstborn".

Guitarist and composer Terrence McManus has made a serious name for himself in improvised and contemporary music, with an unmistakable sound and truly new approach to the guitar. Described as "a visionary guitarist" by guitar legend Gene Bertoncini, Terrence's unique style and approach have also been heralded by guitar greats Bill Frisell and John Abercrombie. His much sought after sound can be heard in the Gerry Hemingway Quintet, Kermit Driscoll Quartet and Trio, and the Herb Robertson Ensemble.

At the heart of this new ensemble, "Firstborn", is the revisitation of a more conventional quartet setting. However, the resemblance will be purposefully blurred, as the familiarity of the quartet sound will interlaced with stretches of multiple independence, electronica, and industrial sounds.

The ensemble will feature some of the absolute top musicians in improvised music today. Performing with Terrence will be saxophonist Ellery Eskelin, bassist Mark Helias, and drummer Gerald Cleaver. Sets at 9pm and 10:30pm.

Terrence's other recent ensembles have included Tim Berne, Herb Robertson, Mark Helias, Gerry Hemingway (The Weathly Industrialists), and Ellery Eskelin, Mat Maneri, Russ Lossing, Gerry Hemingway (The Dream of the Ants).

The Cornelia Street Cafe is located at 29 Cornelia Street, Greewnwich Village, New York Tel: 212-989-9319, online at: www.corneliastreetcafe.com
