A Journey Through Jazz with George Freeman and Billy Branch April 5th
(Published: April 04, 2019)

Our 50th Anniversary Year

JazzCity: A Journey Through Jazz
April 5, 2019 | 7:30pm | Free
Ellis Park
3520 S. Cottage Grove | Chicago, IL

The Blues Branch

Billy Branch has been a mainstay in both the blues and jazz scenes in Chicago for decades-a link between the two that illustrates that the roots of jazz come from the mother tree of the blues. Branch explores this notion with 91 year old guitar wizard George Freeman and his band, Sons of the Blues. This concert will also feature a special presentation about Freeman's new album "George The Bomb!" by Southport Records.

Dedicated JIC co-founder Bob Koester.

About "George The Bomb!"
History. That is Chicago Guitar Legend George Freeman. From "Birth Sign," Freeman's first album as a leader in 1972 on Delmark, to 2019 and "George The Bomb!" from Southport Records, Freeman is in rare form! His collaboration with Harp Master Billy Branch proves that jazz and blues are members of the same musical family.
