Juewett Bostick is stylish and classy on new album
(Published: July 27, 2019)

Shades of Blu is a classy, stylish new album by from guitarist/composer/producer Juewett Bostick. This beautiful release features 17 original songs, each blurring the lines between a wider range of styles. In fact, one of the best features of this record is that the artist has got such a diverse creative approach to his craft. The eclectic nature of this set list makes the songs (a mix of originals and reimagined classics) more interesting and dynamic, often giving the audience a stunning experience akin to a musical journey.

The LP begins with an introduction, which is aptly titled "Tribal Dance." This cut is one of the shortest pieces on the album, but it goes a long way in terms of punch and excellence.

"High Modes" is one of the most interesting songs on this effort. The groove is hypnotic and sophisticated with that perfect fusion vibe. I love the rhythm of this song and how the guitar truly stands out with the tasteful octave riffs.

"These Friends of Mine" is yet another fantastic song, which combines electronic music elements with fun spoken-word ideas and unique melodies. This is a playful track with a bit of a storytelling element to it. The title cut itself combines vintage drum machine tones with beautiful R&B vocals and cool guitar riffs. If this isn't the definition of cool, I don't know what else is.

"My Friend" is yet another amazing track, which stands out as one of my favorites. If you are a fan of '60s-inspired blues, you are going to dig this one. The guitar playing channels the spirit of seminal performers such as Buddy Guy, B.B. King, and even Stevie Ray Vaughn, just to mention but a few. I love the vocal parts as well, which bust the boundaries between spoken word and melodic blues singing.
