Trombonist Charles Hamilton Delivers A Stellar Debut CD!

San Francisco CA. June 15th, 2020-San Francisco born musician, composer, arranger and educator Charles Hamilton has released his debut CD Mr. Hamudah!

For Charles Hamilton the flame for music was ignited when "I was introduced to the trumpet by Louie Armstrong when he performed on the Ed Sullivan Show. I was a little kid growing up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and was hooked from that moment!"

Charles was serious from the very beginning. He continues "When I got my trumpet in the 7th grade it absorbed my young life"!

It was later in 1965 after a move to San Francisco, that Charles switched to trombone when his band director "needed trombone players in his concert band at the College Of San Mateo".

Later after earning a music degree at San Francisco State, it was in 1981 Hamilton was appointed director of the jazz program at Berkeley High School featuring the renowned Berkeley High School Jazz Band, a position he held for 28 years!

Some of the high profile names on the jazz scene today came through the Berkeley High School Jazz Band under Hamilton's directorship including Joshua Redman, Dayna Stephens, Ambrose Akinmusire,Thomas Pridgen and Charlie Hunter to name a few!

He now directs the U.C. Santa Cruz Jazz Big Band and the high school combo of the California Jazz Conservatory in Berkeley California!

Regarding his commitment to music education Hamilton says "I loved my band directors, when I finished high school I decided I wanted to be a teacher like my band directors were to me"!

Charles Hamilton has determined "now is the time" for the release of Mr. Hamudah his new CD release named after his youngest son and also the title of track 4!

Hamilton continues "each tune is dedicated to my children, track 1 Yanal is to my oldest son, track 2 Baian my youngest daughter, track 3 Kendall the oldest daughter, and track 6 for Tarika my middle daughter and Love, Always And Forever track 5 is dedicated to my mother!

Charles has composed and arranged a very compelling and emotional set of tunes with lots of room for incredible soloing by the A List of musicians assembled for his roaring debut!

Michael Aaberg-piano, Ben Ball-alto and soprano saxophones, Josh Jones-drums, Joshi Marshall- tenor saxophone, Mosheh Milon-percussion, Miles Perkins-bass, Mark Wright -trumpet and leader Charles Hamilton-trombone.
