Lamont Van Hook creates magic with uniting soulful and country influences
(Published: July 25, 2020)

Some people think that country music and soul are from two completely different musical worlds. While these genres have different historical backgrounds and production aesthetics, it is undeniable that they also have many connection points. Soul and country are both heartfelt creative expressions coming from a very personal place.

Something truly magical can happen when you bring these two worlds together, and this is exactly what's happening with Lamont Van Hook's music. This talented singer is back on the scene with a beautiful new song, aptly titled "Something New."

The track reveals Van Hook's versatility as a singer. His vocals are absolutely stunning on this particular release, and he can seriously do so much with his vocal chords. He can belt out fierce and powerful notes, but he can also sing quietly and with softer dynamics. The versatility of his amazing voice makes me think of celebrated artists such as Marvin Gaye, Al Green and Otis Redding, some of the best in the game for sure.

"Something New" is a perfect sublimation of these two musical worlds: country and soul. The country side of his influences are particularly notable in the track's instrumental parts. The sound is crisp and bright, yet warm and punchy, reminiscent of some of those legendary Nashville-style productions which really took the formula to a whole new level. The vocals on the other hand, have a warm, old-school feel, which makes me think of some of the best records of the Motown era.

What I love about this track is that it feels like a very honest and one-of-a-kind portrait of his beautiful music, as well as a unique example of what it means to make music with endless passion and determination. You are definitely going to love this one, whether you are a country fan or a lover of great soul music.

"Something New" is the perfect blend of soul music and country influences, going for a memorable and emotional take on these two styles.
