Damani Rhodes Unveils New Sides on R.E.A.C.H - OUT TODAY (Published: November 06, 2020)
Damani Rhodes, Sacramento-based multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer has now added "leader debut" to his already impressive resume.R.E.A.C.H, released today on Bandcamp (and just in time for Bandcamp Friday) is a wide-ranging, five-track collection of r&B infused jazz gems. Damani shines here on piano alongside drummer Somadhi Johnson. Star trumpeter Keyon Harrold appears on the track "Mon Yawn Ugh" and vocalist VADIA sings a wordless melody on the lovely "Slow Dance in the Jungle".
This release chronicles a collaboration between Rhodes and the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. Rhodes took up a residency in February at the relatively new wing of the Kennedy Center, which opened its doors last Fall. The music of R.E.A.C.H was conceived, composed and recorded at the locale, and matches the mood: it's modern, it's contemporary, incredibly fresh sounding.
The five tracks on R.E.A.C.H exemplify different segments of Damani's artistry. From the tender musings of "Slow Dance in the Jungle", to the carnal bright-tempoed drive of "Sludge", Rhodes' compositional prowess and stunning facility on the piano are well-demonstrated.
Born and raised in Sacramento, California, Damani Rhodes's musical background began at church, where he was impressed by a young drummer at Sunday service. Since then, Rhodes has has evolved into a full-fledged quadruple threat: musician, composer, producer, and entrepreneur. He founded the mobile app DrumTrax in 2017, and to date it has over 50,000 downloads.
R.E.A.C.H is a solid introduction to this rising talent, and we can't wait to see where he'll reach to next.
