New Charlie Rauh EP is beautiful, mesmerizing
(Published: March 11, 2021)

Charlie Rauh is back with a fantastic new release: The Silent Current From Within. Besides this poetic and highly evocative title, this EP is filled to the brim with fantastic performances, which highlight Charlie's passion for folk, jazz, and fusion, among other styles.

The release features five studio tracks, including the beautiful and mesmerizing title track, which begins with a lonely female vocal choir reminiscent of ancient vocal folk music. It feels like being alone in a timeless forest, listening to a ghost from a time long gone. This minimalist introduction is incredibly powerful: you couldn't match the disarming strength of a lonely vocal part if you had an entire orchestra!

The second track, "A Marked and Mended Sign" is a soothing guitar-driven ballad, combining smooth guitar arpeggio with a fantastic rhythm section. The following number, "Until The Charm Fades," is another acoustic-driven melody, this time offering a sparse percussion backdrop and some strings to accompany the main guitar parts, lending a deeper, more cinematic tone to this arrangement. I particularly love the section in which there is a guitar note in ostinato, which creates a beautiful melodic drone, along with the washy drum parts.

Next up, "As Simple As Water" is a more traditionally melodic track. The rhythm is a bit more upfront, creating a tantalizing combination of traditional jazz influences and acoustic folk. This is a balanced song, and one of the most upbeat numbers on the entire EP.

Last, but definitely not least, "If This Be All" is a very strong conclusion. The song brings back the vocal parts, but this time, instead of having just a lonely vocal, there is a section of harmonies, singing along an arpeggiated guitar track.

Overall, this is a perfect EP to listen to early in the morning, as the sun comes up and the birds starts chirping. There is something truly authentic and organic about this release, and the innocence of it is quite charming
