CANDID RECORDS ARTISTS ACCLAIMED PIANIST/SINGER/COMPOSER ELIANE ELIAS AND THE LEGENDARY COUNT BASIE ORCHESTRA RECEIVE GRAMMY® NOMINATIONS
(Published: November 23, 2021)

Candid Records congratulates Eliane Elias on her GRAMMY® nomination for her album of piano duets MIRROR MIRROR with Chick Corea and Chucho Valdés and The Count Basie Orchestra under the direction of Scotty Barnhart for LIVE AT BIRDLAND. The albums were nominated in the following categories:

• MIRROR MIRROR/ELIANE ELIAS with Chick Corea and Chucho Valdés - Best Latin Jazz Album
• LIVE AT BIRDLAND/COUNT BASIE ORCHESTRA - Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album

Since its release in September MIRROR MIRROR has been gathering GRAMMY® dust with rave reviews. Downbeat called the album "an artistic marvel," All About Jazz - "one of the finest jazz duets album ever produced" and San Francisco Classical Voice states, "Mirror Mirror makes a compelling case that the Brazilian born Elias is a serious contender for superlative honors."

MIRROR MIRROR is a lifelong musical dream come true -an extraordinary piano duet recording of Eliane with the late legendary jazz great Chick Corea, and famed Cuban pianist Chucho Valdés. While her highly successful recordings have predominantly featured her alluring voice and piano mastery, the piano has always been her first love and working with these two incredible icons was a rare opportunity to record in a two-piano setting, something she hasn't done since 1995, when she recorded Solos & Duets with Herbie Hancock, which earned a GRAMMY nomination for Best Jazz Solo Performance. This is the eighth nomination for Elias who won the coveted award in 2016 for Best Latin Jazz Album for "Made in Brazil."

Over the course of their illustrious career The Count Basie Orchestra has garnered 18 GRAMMY® Awards. In the summer of 1961, a live recording "Basie at Birdland!" of a two-night stand at the famed venue which Count Basie dubbed his musical home, has been called the best live recording of a big band ever. Almost 60 years later in January of 2020, The Count Basie Orchestra under the direction of Scotty Barnhart would return to Birdland to once again record a live album. The results of those performances find the current band at its peak and mark the latest GRAMMY® nomination for the two-album set LIVE AT BIRDLAND. Upon release WRTI named the recording Jazz Album of the Week for "its classic, timeless cool," and a recent feature in San Francisco Classical Voice called them "an ensemble that continues to expand its epic era-defining legacy."

The Recording Academy will present the 2022 GRAMMY Awards on Mon, Jan. 31, on the CBS Television Network and streamed live and on demand on Paramount from 8-11:30 p.m. ET / 5-8:30 p.m. PT. Prior to the telecast, the GRAMMY Awards Premiere Ceremony will be held at the Microsoft Theater at 12:30 p.m. PT/3:30 p.m. ET and will be streamed live on GRAMMY.com and the Recording Academy's YouTube Channel.
